Whisky made by passion of Masataka Taketsuru, Father of Japanese Whisky
“NIKKA WHISKY” was founded by Masataka Taketsuru, who devoted his life to making authentic whisky in Japan. Obtaining expertise firsthand from Scotch distillers, he adopted the authentic ways of making whisky and established his own style without any compromise. NIKKA WHISKY stays true to traditions such as direct coal-fired distillation, which has become quite rare even in Scotland, and keeps progressing at the same time to pursue quality whisky. Masataka’s dream and passion is the starting point of NIKKA WHISKY and is inherited until today.
Established as “Dai Nippon Kaju”, meaning the “Great Japanese Juice Company” in 1934, the company started producing apple products in Yoichi, Hokkaido, to keep the business sustainable and started distillation in 1936. The first whisky was released in 1940. The brand name of this whisky was “NIKKA WHISKY”, short for "Nippon Kaju", which later became the name of the company itself. NIKKA WHISKY owns Yoichi Distillery and Miyagikyo Distillery, and offers various whiskies and spirits to connoisseurs around the world.
