Approach

The low birthrate and aging of population are increasing awareness about health. Companies in the Asahi Group have accumulated extensive resources and knowledge since the foundation of the Group. Examples include yeasts and fermentation technologies that are needed for brewing beer, such as Asahi Super Dry, our technological capabilities cultivated through research on lactic acid bacteria for Calpis, and other activities. With consideration for customers’ health needs, the Asahi Group contributes to quality of life improvements through food in a mature society by utilizing the accumulation of its original technologies in yeast, lactic acid bacteria and others, and providing products in pursuit of health value.

Management System

Asahi Soft Drinks Co., Ltd. and Asahi Group Foods, Ltd., engaged in our domestic operations for soft drinks and food, respectively, have a management system where departments involved in the process from manufacturing to distribution cooperate in an effort to solve social issues. Details of the cooperation are shared and discussed in the Group CSR Council and are reported at the Corporate Strategy Board.

Main Results for FY2018

  • Karada Calpis (Asahi's foods with function claims), a lactic soft drink with a feature to reduce body fat, has been newly launched and 2.07 million cans (104% versus previous year) have been sold. (Asahi Soft Drinks Co., Ltd.)
  • In cooperation with municipal governments and as part of the commitment to solving health-related problems in communities, a health support activity has begun in Nyuzenmachi, Toyama, which is also the location of the Hokuriku Factory of Asahi Soft Drinks Co., Ltd. A 100-milliliter plastic bottle of the protective, effective lactic acid bacteria was given to each of the nearly 2,500 teachers and students at all nursery schools, kindergartens and elementary and junior high schools in the municipality every day for two months. Going Forward

Asahi Soft Drinks Co., Ltd. and Asahi Group Foods, Ltd. pursue solutions to social issues related to food by expanding their efforts and projects by leveraging the Asahi Group's strengths in domains such as applied technology with fermentation or microorganisms and research on lactic acid bacteria.
