Asahi Signs the CEO Water Mandate, a UN Global Compact initiative
Asahi Group Holdings, Ltd.
(Tokyo, Japan - April 17, 2023) – Asahi Group Holdings, Ltd. is pleased to announce that it has signed the CEO Water Mandate- a global initiative established by the United Nations Global Compact - and reaffirmed its continued commitment to address water sustainability and water resource issue.
The CEO Water Mandate is a global platform that supports corporate development, practices, and information disclosure relating to water sustainability and water resource issues. Companies that endorse the Mandate commit themselves to setting water use targets, encouraging suppliers to make effective use of water, and addressing water scarcity and sanitation issues by working together with community groups.
Water Resources is one of the four pillars highlighted in the “Asahi Group Environmental Vision 2050” initiative. As a company that enjoys the gifts of nature, including water and agricultural raw materials to create products and services, the Group promotes activities to enhance the sustainability of water resources on a global scale. Asahi Group will continue to enhance efforts to promote water recycling through the optimization of water usage and to preserve ecosystems by maintaining appropriate water quality and quantity, among other measures. This is in line with the global target set to reduce the basic unit of water consumption to 3.2 m3/kl or less by 2030. To name an example in Japan, the Asahi Forest, is a company-owned forest where Asahi Group has maintained sufficient groundwater recharge volume and contributed to water resource preservation through more than 80 years of proper forest management.
With the aim of integrating sustainability into management, Asahi Group has been working on promoting group-wide sustainability by establishing a global structure and setting targets. With its corporate statement, “Cheer the Future,” the Group aims to make further contributions to realize a sustainable society through its business activities.
