Asahi Biocycle Joins Effort to Restore Pastureland in Brazil
(Tokyo, Japan - March 27, 2025)—Asahi Biocycle Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Asahi Group Holdings is pleased to announce its participation in a demonstration project to restore Brazil's degraded pastureland, or pastures and farmland whose soil have deteriorated due to inadequate land management and over usage. The effort seeks to prevent deforestation while maintaining productive farmland. It is spearheaded by Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, and Ministry of Agrarian Development and Family Farming. Asahi Biocycle joins this project with other Japanese companies and Brazil’s Nikkei (Japanese descendant) agricultural cooperatives.
This project is from April 2025 until March 2026, and Asahi Biocycle and others will demonstrate with soil improvement agents and bio-stimulants to improve both productivity and sustainability of degraded farms in the vast Cerrado ecoregion of southeastern Brazil and in the agroforestry areas of northern Brazil. This joint demonstration project contributes to the National Program for the Conversion of Degraded Pastures into Sustainable Agricultural and Forestry Production Systems launched by Brazil’s government in December 2023. Approximately 60% of Brazil’s pastureland is degraded or degrading. The government program aims to restore 40 million hectares of pastureland over the next decade by integrating crops, livestock, and forestry. Asahi seeks to support this project by offering innovative products and technologies and we address to help the social challenges caused by degraded pastureland in Brazil.
