Lactobacillus gasseri CP2305
Lactobacillus gasseri CP2305
A strain selected from the Asahi Group’s extensive library of proprietary lactic acid bacteria for its potential to act via the brain-gut interaction.*
*The mechanism by which the gut and brain pass information to each other through the autonomic nervous system to maintain biological functions. This mechanism is called the “brain-gut interaction.”
Research background
The Asahi Group’s research on lactic acid bacteria and fermented milk can be traced back to Calpis, a company that produced and released Japan’s first lactic acid bacteria beverage in 1919. Tests done on mice in the 1970s as part of a collaborative research project between Calpis (then still an independent company) and Riken found that longevity was promoted by a proprietary formulation of fermented milk made from lactic acid bacteria and yeast. This work inspired the Asahi Group to pioneer the study of lactic acid bacteria and fermented milk by researching functional lactic acid bacteria. The Group is collaborating more closely with outside research institutions to improve our technologies for finding and assessing functional lactic acid bacteria as we work on selecting new strains with outstanding functions.
Major research findings
- Aiding gut disorders
- Alleviating stress
Creating a society of health and abundance
While the brain is the center of the nervous system and the organ primarily responsible for determining mental states, a growing body of work is showing that the gut also assists mental health through the brain-gut interaction Lactobacillus gasseri CP2305 has been found to potentially stimulate the gut and affect the brain and nervous system. This lactic acid bacterial strain could be used to promote physical and mental health, helping bring calm to everyday life in the high-stress environment of the modern world.
