Advancing Sustainability Together: Responsible Sourcing Insights from Malaysia
In October 2024, the Procurement and Sustainability teams from Asahi Group Holdings and Asahi Global Procurement (AGPRO) took a meaningful step on our sustainability journey with a field visit to several agriculture ingredient suppliers in Malaysia which are used in various food and beverage products.
The visit was more than just a tour—it was an inspiring, hands-on learning experience that deepened our commitment to responsible sourcing.
We had the opportunity to connect with various tiers of the supply chain—from the fields to the factories. By engaging directly with local partners and certification bodies, we uncovered both challenges and opportunities to advance sustainability. This firsthand insight proved invaluable, highlighting the importance of on-the-ground experiences in making informed, impactful decisions.
To close the visit, we hosted a supplier training session designed to empower our partners with the knowledge and tools they need to foster more sustainable and resilient supply chains.
During the trip, we connected with key sustainability non-profit organizations who provided Asahi updates on certification standards and industry challenges.
For example, one of the NPOs shared insights on field-level projects benefiting communities, workers, and ecosystems. Together, we identified opportunities to enhance sustainable sourcing and drive progress in the agriculture supply chain.
At Asahi, we believe building a sustainable future relies on strong partnerships and collective action. This visit was part of our efforts to achieve our ambitious target: by 2030, the Asahi Group strives to source sustainable raw materials through by implementing a risk-based due diligence process to effectively identify, assess, mitigate, and remediate human rights risks in our supply chains.
Asahi Global Procurement (AGPRO), is at the forefront of implementing our risk-based due diligence process. AGPRO works with our suppliers to ensure our raw materials are sourced responsibly and ethically by identifying, assessing, and mitigating human rights risks.
Our journey in Malaysia embodies our statement: Make the world shine – we bring people together to make the world shine brighter. Sustainability is a collective effort, and we remain committed to engaging with stakeholders and strengthening collaboration with our partners to create a more sustainable future for people and the planet. 🌍
