Asahi Group Headquarters and Asahi Group Hall

Located in Azumabashi, Sumida-ku, Tokyo, the amber-hued Asahi Group Headquarters Building and the uniquely designed Asahi Group Hall Building, crowned with its striking golden flame sculpture “Flamme d’Or”, are widely recognized as iconic landmarks of the Asakusa area.

Constructed as a Centennial Commemorative Project

Back in the early 20th century, this very site was home to the Azumabashi Brewery, which supported beer production for over 80 years—from 1903 to 1985. The operations were eventually halted, and the land sold as part of a corporate restructuring.

In the years that followed, Asahi experienced a resurgence thanks to the phenomenal success of Asahi Super Dry. As part of its 100th anniversary celebration, the company reclaimed a portion of the original site and, in 1989, unveiled two iconic structures that symbolize Asahi's bold leap into the future.

Asahi Group Headquarters Building

Designed to resemble an overflowing mug of beer, the Asahi Group Headquarters Building glows with golden glass that evokes the rich color of freshly poured beer. The building’s amber-tinted mirrored glass extends up to the 20th floor, while the 21st and 22nd floors are clad in a white finish that suggests a frothy beer head. Towering at nearly 100 meters, the building is an unmistakable presence in the Tokyo skyline.
Today, the building continues to serve as the headquarters of the Asahi Group, including the Asahi Beer company. The top floors—symbolizing the "foam"—house a panoramic restaurant, offering visitors spectacular views of Tokyo.

Asahi Group Hall

Next to the headquarters stands the Asahi Group Hall, instantly recognizable for its rooftop golden flame sculpture, the Flamme d’Or. Designed by renowned French designer Philippe Starck, the flame—44 meters long and weighing 360 tons—is a bold artistic statement representing “Asahi’s burning passion and drive toward a new century.”
The sculpture is constructed from steel and rests atop a black granite pedestal shaped like an inverted trapezoid, inspired by the design of a torch pedestal.

The Hall’s interior draws inspiration from luxury cruise ship, with playful design elements by Starck. Towering columns that echo the shape of beer foam, grand white marble staircases, and fluid architectural lines create a dynamic and engaging space.
As Starck himself explained that “We wanted to create a strong impression that Asahi is there in harmony with the environment, something new and something mysterious that has never existed in Tokyo before”.
Within the Hall, you'll also find the Beer Restaurant Flamme d’Or, open to the public and perfect for enjoying Asahi’s signature brews in an iconic setting. The space also hosts meetings, receptions, and special events, making it a versatile venue.
